Venous ulcers are leg ulcers caused by blood circulation problems in the veins of the legs. Ankles are the most common site of sprain. Venous ulcers are typically recurrent, and open ulcers can last anywhere from a few weeks to several years. Cellulitis, osteomyelitis, and malignant transformation are all serious consequences. Although the general occurrence of these ulcers is modest, their refractory nature increases the risk of morbidity and mortality; and has a major influence on patients’ quality of life.
