Violence is increasing being used against doctors and other medical personnel. A spurt in violent acts in Maharashtra has initiated an agitation amongst doctors and triggered a feeling of unhappiness and apathy in the medical profession. Many doctors have publicly expressed that they would encourage their progeny not to take up the profession. This development is most retrograde.
The medical profession is already not attracting the best talent due to concerns of poorer remuneration; limited job options; difficult working conditions; phenomenally long training; and loss of professional glamour.
