Among the factors which are critical in women undergoing assisted reproduction treatment (ART), now there is addition of one more factor, that is vitamin D. A recent meta-analysis published in the journal “Human reproduction” suggests that in women undergoing ART, the live birth rate was higher who had normal levels of vitamin D. Data from 11 published studies were analyzed which included 2700 women who were undergoing ART – either IVF or, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and/or frozen embryo transfer. Vitamin D status in these women was checked through blood tests.
It was observed that rate of live births was higher in women who had the right amount of vitamin D. Vitamin D concentrations of > 75 nmol/L were considered to be sufficient and concentrations < 75 nmol/L were considered insufficient. Women with < 50 nmol/L were considered deficient in vitamin D.
