We keep reading about it in the newspapers how the government is having a tough time making fresh graduates and newly minted specialists work in the rural areas of India. So there is now some form of rural bond in many states in India. What is often forgotten is why don't doctors want to go to rural areas? What is this something that the government is not addressing that there is a shortage of doctors in rural areas and a shortage of jobs for physicians in cities? Some of the reasons I can think of.
This certainly is not an exhaustive list: Infrastructure The government hospitals in big cities like Bangalore, Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, etc themselves are not the among the best in infrastructure.
