For the last few days it is in news that goat blood administered per rectum in thalassemia patient Will cure the disease. Evidence quoted is of Ayurvedic Texts where this procedure is useful in disorder " Raktabasti" similar to thalassemia. But, facts raising eye brows are: 1) The term thalassemia is not mentioned in Ayurvedic Texts. 2) Randomized control clinical trials which are must for practising new drug or therapy is lacking.
The only favorable fact is financial support of central government for this project. I don't suspect effectiveness of the Ayurveda but am of the view that to ensure its authentication, it is essential to fulfil all requirements needed for practising of the new procedure.
