Every year, 1 st December is observed as World AIDS Day to show solidarity with the millions of people living with HIV worldwide. The theme for this year is “Equalize,” highlighting the need for each of us to address the inequalities that hold back our progress toward ending AIDS. In the global effort to end AIDS, children and adolescents continue to fall behind. New cases still occur every day, and not enough children and adolescents living with HIV have access to testing and antiretroviral therapy.
Although, since 2000, the number of new pediatric cases has decreased significantly, this is the moment for the world to push on and keep working towards creating an AIDS-free generation where all children and their families are protected from HIV infection.
