Since its inception at the first Health Assembly in 1948, the World Health Day celebration is aimed at creating awareness of various unmet needs in the global healthcare system. The celebration is spearheaded by the World Health Organization (WHO) to spread the unparalleled value of good health on 7th April every year. Over the past five decades, this day has addressed important health issues such as mental, physical, and emotional well-being, maternal and child care, and climate change.

History The idea of creating an independent international health organization was proposed by Brazil and China in 1945.
