I am observing that many medical practitioners especially consultants see more than 50 plus patients a day and in addition, there are regular consultants to 2-3 hospitals. Are these medical professionals doing justice to the patient? Specialists, consultants or family physicians need minimum of 7 - 10 minutes to take history, physical examination and diagnose. And then do minimum tests to confirm their diagnosis and give a prescription and explain the patient of the ailment. Today they hardly spend 2 - 3 minutes on each patient. Half the time is spent on ticking investigation to be done as they are hand in gloves with the Labs, Imaging centers or are partners and beneficiary from them.
When asked their reply is a lame excuse. They are doing evidence-based practice or is because of medico-legal problems. Where has clinical acumen gone? Where has the medical education system failed? …
