Preterm birth is defined as a baby born before the 37th week of pregnancy . According to WHO, 15 million babies are born prematurely globally . Preterm birth complications led to the death of 1 million children under five years of age in 2015. African and South Asian countries have more than 60% preterm births, and more than 3.5 million preterm births occur in India . Above 90% of extremely preterm babies die within a few days of birth in low-income countries and below 10% of extremely preterm babies die in high-income countries.
