Recent FDA safety communication has conveyed the message that antibiotic Clarithromycin can pose an increased long-term risk to patient with heart disease. The recommendation was based on the clinical trial CLARICOR, that first observed this safety issue. The clinical trial assessed the 10-year follow-up study of patients with coronary heart disease and found clarithromycin responsible for cardiovascular mortality and cerebrovascular morbidity.
