Peripheral nerve injury is a major challenge in reconstructive neurosurgery in spite of advanced understanding of injury and regenerative pathophysiology of nerves. Standard surgery has its limitation. This article discusses 3 advanced techniques for the repair of peripheral nerve injuries.

Even after surgical nerve repair, poor nerve regeneration & incomplete functional recovery is often associated with peripheral nerve injuries. Although the regeneration capacity of the peripheral nervous system is better than that of central nervous system, a complete recovery is infrequent and results in continued neuropathic pain.
