Side effects from blood pressure (BP) medications are far more common than many clinicians realize. In a large primary care cohort of 1,719 patients with poorly controlled hypertension, 90% reported at least one bothersome symptom, and 39% described symptoms as a “big” or “very big” problem. Strikingly, 34% believed these symptoms were directly caused by their medications, and both higher symptom severity and perceived medication link were strongly associated with lower treatment satisfaction and poor adherence, jeopardizing BP control.
