Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is a common, potentially malignant oral disorder that is highly prevalent in I ndia and Southeast Asia . The prevalence rates in India are staggering, ranging from 0.1 to 30%. Commercialization of areca nut and tobacco formulations in easily available and cheap single-use packets has escalated the disease burden. The malignant transformation of OSMF is 7 to 13% , making its early detection and intervention extremely crucial. Periodic dental screening and timely intervention can delay or even prevent the malignant transformation.
