A recent study published in a very well-known journal indicated that preterm delivery is independently predictive of CVD and may be used for CVD prevention efforts. This article provides some study highlights. Study Background The study hypothesis was that the pregnancy acts as a stress test that indicates eventual CVD risks. Pregnancy complications like preterm delivery, HDP, gestational diabetes provide a warning sign of CVD risk that could be useful in identifying women who are at high risk of CVD.
Although it is known that the women who deliver preterm are at 2-fold increased risk, it is still unknown whether this risk persists after considering for pre-pregnancy lifestyle and risk factors for CVD.
