In the following few lines, an attempt has been made to enumerate the contribution of Pvt. Medical Colleges in Nation Healthcare. Certain data obtained from the MCI website and the presentation is made based on experience in the field. For the Academic Year 2012, there were total 355 Medical Colleges with 44250 MBBS seats out of which under Pvt. management 194 colleges with 24,105 students’ intake are functioning as per MCI norms.
In monetary terms as per the Govt. claim of spending up to Rs. 40 lakhs on each graduate the amount spent on educating & training these 24, 105 doctors amounts to Rs. 9,642 crores, the entire expenditure is being born by Pvt Medical College Management through self-financing, charging about 40% to 50% of students as decided by the respective State Govt.
