Congenital heart defects (CHDs) are the most common type of structural or functional abnormalities in the heart present at birth. The defect may be present in walls, valves, or the arteries and veins of the heart causing blood flow abnormalities. It has an incidence rate of eight in every 1000 live births and accounts for 10% of infant mortality in India . Cardiac surgeries are required in CHD patients for improving blood flow to the lungs, but the functioning of the pulmonary valve may be disturbed, leading to pulmonary valve regurgitation.
Currently, open-heart surgery is the intervention of choice for correcting pulmonary valve regurgitation.
