Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a global concern owing to its close association with obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus. While this link helps identify at-risk individuals for the development of cirrhosis and other comorbidities, it also allows clinicians to plan prevention strategies. There is no approved medication to treat NAFLD; however, lifestyle modification along with weight loss medications and surgery may reduce the burden. The American Association of Clinical Endocrinology (AACE) has released evidence-based clinical practice recommendations (2022) to diagnose and manage nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
