Case presentation  A 55-year-old healthy woman presented to the gastroenterologist with solid food stuck in her throat. History  A 2-year history of progressive dysphagia to solids Gastroesophageal reflux disease was still being treated with omeprazole. Hypothyroidism Family history The patient's mother and son had diabetes mellitus  Social history  No alcohol intake She was a smoker 20 years ago, with a 15-pack-year history.

Physical and laboratory examination  Unremarkable Esophagography  Filling defect in the upper thoracic esophagus Computed tomography  8 cm polyp-like mass on the wall of the esophagus.
