A seven-year-old patient with a renal artery aneurysm in his right kidney and renovascular hypertension has successfully undergone India’s first renal autotransplantation at AIIMS Delhi. This procedure marks only the third reported case of autotransplantation globally. The young patient suffered from uncontrolled high blood pressure and had experienced two episodes of hematuria. Upon diagnosis, a surgeon at AIIMS identified a fusiform aneurysm near the patient’s kidney hilum, which made stenting unfeasible. Consequently, the surgical intervention was deemed necessary.

During an eight-hour surgery, two surgeons performed a right nephrectomy, aneurysmectomy, and autotransplantation. The team successfully re-implanted the kidney in the patient’s right lower abdomen.
