Doctors at AIIMS New Delhi have successfully separated a parasitic twin from a 17-year-old boy from Unnao district, Uttar Pradesh. The occurrence of conjoined twins is rare , with a probability of 1 in 50,000 to 1 in 100,000 births. Asymmetrical or parasitic twins are even rarer, with only about 40 documented cases worldwide. When the boy sought treatment at AIIMS, doctors discovered two fully developed limbs and a pelvis with external genitalia attached to his abdomen.

He had lived with his underdeveloped twin since birth and experienced sensations such as touch, temperature, and pain in the parasitic limbs.
