Case presentation A 44-year-old man presents to an emergency department (ED) with a chief symptom of weakness. He reported having recovered from a sore throat which he had contracted a week ago. However, since then, he has developed fatigue and global weakness. A day before his ED visit, the patient fell and stuck his head. He denies any neurologic changes, including headache, vision changes, sensory changes, focal motor weakness, and dizziness.

He had a medical history of hypertension and dyslipidemia and adhered to his usual home regimen of lisinopril and simvastatin. He reported having normal fluid and nutrient intake.
