Lemierre's syndrome is thrombophlebitis of the internal jugular vein. It is a rare and potentially fatal complication of the oropharyngeal tract bacterial infection. This condition often progresses into pulmonary emboli , causing respiratory distress syndrome and septic shock. Here, we present a case of a teenager who developed Lemierre's syndrome during streptococcal pharyngitis treatment. Case presentation A 16-year-old was presented to a primary care physician with a two-week history of swelling in the right side of her neck.

Two days before the current presentation, the patient reported increased swelling and pain on the right side of her neck. The pain radiated to her right ear and down to the right shoulder and was worse during neck movements.
