Severe sepsis, a syndrome characterized by systemic inflammation and acute organ dysfunction in response to infection, is a major healthcare problem. The anesthetics play a crucial role in the management of patients with severe sepsis from their initial deterioration till intraoperative management for emergency surgery. These patients are at high risk, already requiring multiple supports and experienced skillful decision making to optimize their chances of a favorable outcome.
