The importance of antibiotics prophylaxis has been debated for a long time. Whether to rely on antibiotics prophylaxis in prevention of infective endocarditis for GI surgeries has been discussed widely. Few decades ago, antibiotics prophylaxis was common practice for most GI procedures in the patients with high-risk cardiac conditions to reduce the risks of infective endocarditis.
