As increasing number of patients both in the community & hospital are identified either infected or colonized with multidrug-resistant organisms (bacteria). It's a well-known fact that Doctors have been on the forefront for prescribing high-cost broad spectrum antimicrobials for their patients. Some doctors working on hospitalized patients, delay the de-escalation or discontinuation of the empirical broad-spectrum agents based on the patient's clinical response or available microbiology culture & susceptibility results.
Patients most of the times don't complete the antimicrobial course as advised by their doctors because the emphasis on the need for course completion was not provided adequately because of doctors lack of time.
