End-stage liver disease (ESLD ) and some other liver-associated comorbidities secondary to hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection are the leading cause of mortality and preferably managed with antiretroviral therapy (ART). However, co-infection of HIV with HBV has complicated the use of ART as the anti-retroviral drugs vary widely in their safety and efficacy and moreover have a dual effect on HIV infection. This article will summarize the clinical data available on the various antiviral agents for deciding the treatment approach and expected the outcome.
