The cover story was about very high priced total knee implants, and this article was reposted on most orthopaedic fora. Many orthopaedic surgeons have published rebuttals for this. The most widely circulated rebuttal is this. The journalist has absolutely no idea about the expenses involved.

In that case, printing should cost 5/-, newspapers should cost 1/-, a novel should cost 15/-, luxury cars should cost <10000/-, news channels charges should be free as there is no cost involved in transmission. It's not about just the material. Has he ever wondered who pays for those costs n years of research designing trials to bring out a model  Then why does a high-end luxury car cost billions if it's just assembling parts? One has to realise. What one pays is for that…
