Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a major public health burden globally, and its prevalence is estimated to increase due to increasing aging population, especially in developing countries. In India, virtually no epidemiological data is available for AF, however it is predicted by 2050, the number of individuals aged >60 will increase from the current 96 million to >330 million. Consequently, AF is likely to become a major cause of morbidity in India. AF is the most common cardiac arrhythmia seen in clinical practice, occurring in paroxysmal, persistent or permanent forms.
