Complete macroscopic resection surgery, pleurectomy, and decortication (PD) have been reported to improve survival in selected patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM). However, its value has been questioned because of concern that this extensive surgical procedure may disrupt the health-related quality of life (HRQoL). In this regard, a recent study evaluated the HRQoL in patients undergoing PD surgery for MPM at baseline (prior to surgery), 1, 4–5, 7–8, and 10–11 months following surgery.
