A meta-analysis of 81 clinical trials including 53,000 patients, was carried out by researchers at Universities of Auckland and Aberdeen to investigate the effects of vitamin D on fracture rates, falls and bone mineral density. The study found that there was no significant decrease in hip fractures or total fractures. Neither was any improvement noted in the bone mineral density of patients taking vitamin D. Source: M.
