Patients who have been recently diagnosed with cancer or are cancer survivors face unique challenges from the disease and its treatment, including the risk of cancer recurrence, persistent side effects including a physical impact of cancer and its treatment and other chronic illnesses. Historically doctors advise cancer patients to rest and to avoid activity; however emerging evidence is challenging this recommendation. Studies suggest a link between survival of cancer patients and exercise. Most of the evidence comes from survivors with breast, colorectal, or prostate cancers that are the commonest cancers in India.
