Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) is one of the most common myeloid neoplasms of older adults and shows an average incidence rate of 0.2 per 100,000 people per year. It is a group of clonal malignant hematopoietic stem cell disorders characterized by dysplastic morphology, variable cytopenia and a variable threat of transformation to acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Moreover, outcomes for patients with MDS are heterogeneous. Therefore, individual risk stratification is important in managing a patient with MDS.
