Obstetric complications needing blood transfusions may lead to morbidity and mortality if not managed properly. Adverse events associated with blood transfusions including potential infections, transfer of prions, rising costs and possible future problems of availability. Unfortunately, the randomized controlled trials about the blood transfusion during obstetrics are largely unavailable. Hence, the aim of this guideline is to guide appropriate use of blood products so that the affected women are not exposed to unnecessary risk.
