The NIMHANS brain bank – a repository for human brain tissues has only 150 samples of brain tissue which we make available for research purposes. At this brain bank, samples of the human brain that sports names like corpus callosum and amygdale are dissected and stored in formalin-filled jars in minus 70 degree Celsius freezers. Unlike the US where there are multiple brain banks, we are low-key in India. Harvard's brain bank, located at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts, is the world's largest brain repository, distributing tissue specimens to nearly 4,000 researches in the US and around the world every year.
