Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors have gained widespread importance as effective antidiabetic drugs in the management of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). DPP-4 inhibitors stimulate insulin  and inhibit glucagon secretion by elevating endogenous glucagon-like peptide 1 concentrations without an intrinsic hypoglycemia risk. In addition to the efficacy, these drugs have demonstrated a favorable safety profile, especially cardiovascular and renal safety.
