Many patients believe or assume that antibiotics can fail the birth control measures. Rather some prescriptions also indicate the warning that it may decrease the effectiveness of the hormonal birth control pill. Imagine, a woman on birth control pill is reluctant to consume antibiotics because she is fearing unintended pregnancy. This article provides an overview of the available scientific literature in this regard.
A study conducted in the journal Contraception and Journal Of the American Academy of Dermatology found no elevated risk of birth control failure or unintended pregnancy when tested with a vast majority of antibiotics.
