A recent study published in the Lancet has found that individuals with autoimmune disorders are more likely to develop cardiovascular diseases . The population-based cohort study investigated the association between the 19 most common autoimmune disorders and 12 cardiovascular diseases, including heart inflammation, infection-related heart disorders,  and degenerative and thromboembolic heart disorders. Data was collected from 446,449 individuals with autoimmune disorders.

Key findings Individuals with one or more autoimmune disorders have a 1.56 times higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease than those without autoimmune disorders. The risk of cardiovascular disease is highest among people under 55 years.
