The total antioxidant capacity is a single estimate of all antioxidants from the overall daily dietary intake. Recent findings suggest that this total antioxidant capacity may play an important role in reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes in middle-aged women. Although it is evident that oxidative stress can contribute to the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes, further studies are warranted for a better understanding of this association.
