In recent times, incidents of violence against doctors have been on the rise. There have been multiple cases where doctors were beaten and manhandled. This is only the visible part of the problem. For years, doctors have faced verbal and other forms of abuse long before physical assaults became common. Having worked as a resident doctor for over three years in a government medical college in Gujarat, I have personally experienced verbal abuse numerous times, as have all my colleagues.

The growing number of consumer cases against doctors can also be seen as a form of violence.
