This issue is troubling many. I am just voicing it. Off late with the development of technology, it is very easy to video record using smartphones. When a patient comes for a consultation, it is often troubling when we suspect that the entire conversation is being video/audio recorded. Asking the patient whether he is doing so is useless. A "No" does not guarantee a "No"! When we suspect such a possibility, we become conscious, jittery, try to be legally correct, fumble on the prospects of being watched and so on. In short, the consultation will not remain normal.
Possibilities of suboptimal outcome are very high in such cases. How to tackle this? Asking the patient to keep the phone outside is dangerous. Who will take responsibility if it gets stolen?!
