Eclampsia, abruptio placenta, infection in pregnancy, low birth weight, and artificial milk feeding are the risk factors for early childhood epilepsy . However, the association between maternal prenatal psychological distress and the onset of epilepsy in infants remains poorly understood. A retrospective study investigated this association using data from 97,484 children aged one to three years.

The study employed the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale to assess distress among pregnant women during the first and second halves of pregnancy . The analysis found that a prenatal psychological distress score of five or higher was associated with epilepsy diagnosis in children aged one to three years.
