Globally, June is observed as Cataract Awareness Month. During this month, the Centre for Vision and Population Health, along with its global members, aims to make people aware of cataract and its associated risk factors, management options, and preventive measures which can be taken at individual levels. Cataract is the world’s leading cause of blindness, accounting for approximately 48% of cases of blindness globally. 1 This problem also contributes to 90% of the total global disability-adjusted life years (DALY’s). 2 In India, cataract is prevalent in 44.6% of the rural population and 43.6% of the urban population.
