The WHO recommends exclusive breastfeeding as the sole source of nutrition for the new born. Despite the well-known recommendations and obvious benefits offered by breastfeeding to both, mother and new born, not all mother breastfeed or stop breastfeeding before 6 months. In this regard, the article reports the findings published in a review that investigated the potential socio-demographic, physical, mental and social factors that may cause the cessation of breastfeeding before infants reach 6 months of age.
