In its ongoing efforts to curb the marketing of unapproved and irrational fixed-dose combination (FDC) drugs, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) is expected to ban 34 more drugs, most of which are vitamin combinations. Many FDC drugs have been approved by state licensing authorities without the required authorization from the CDSCO. The drug regulator typically bans such drugs after experts’ reviews. In 2018, 344 FDC drugs were banned by the union government. Earlier this month, the government prohibited another 156 FDC drugs, which were used to treat fever, cold, allergies, hypertension , pain, and skin disorders.
