In India, breast cancer is the most common cancer in urban women. The majority of breast cancers are diagnosed at a relatively advanced stage. According to the Union Health Ministry, India accounts for 25.8 per 1,00,000 breast cancer incidence and 12.7 per 100,000 of mortality rate. Due to certain reasons mainly the access to healthcare programmes and screening programmes and sometimes ignorance has led to a high incidence of cancer.

Oncologists undergo many challenges like lack of awareness about screening coupled with reluctant nature of women to get diagnosed early. Many women tend to neglect the tumour occurrences, signs and symptoms which could lead to a major problem in later stages. In this exclusive interview Dr. Kumardeep Dutta briefs on various challenges faced by oncologists while handling breast cancer cases along with its supervision.
