Lung cancer has slowly become one of the leading causes of death worldwide. In India, it accounts for almost 13% of the total cancer cases and 18% of the total cancer deaths in the world. Lung cancer is mostly associated with smoking but there are certain cancer sub-types which are most prevalent in non-smokers too. Adenocarcinoma, a subgroup of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is found to be most prevalent in the Indian subcontinent with 52.7% to 39.5% incidence rate.

It is mostly diagnosed in the advanced stage of cancer rendering limited treatment options coupled with poor response to standard chemotherapy and low survival rate.
