This is a case study of a patient with established diagnosis of cancer who had received standard therapeutic intervention and was subsequently diagnosed with arthritis after developing rheumatic symptoms either during or after treatment. Although chemotherapeutic agents are an important part of cancer management, they are also associated with a high incidence of adverse effects. The most commonly reported side effects include neuropathy, weight gain, sexual dysfunction, ovarian failure, cardiac toxicity, osteoporosis and secondary hematologic malignancy.
In addition to these well-documented side effects, rheumatologic symptoms have also been reported post-chemotherapy.
