Allergen immunotherapy (AIT) is the only causative therapy for the treatment of respiratory allergies and Hymenoptera venom allergy. As clinical contraindications to AIT differ between various guidelines and haven’t been well-documented, European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) reviewed ~ 2300 articles and published comprehensive clinical contraindications to AIT in 2015. This article discusses these contraindications to AIT briefly.
Clinical contraindications to AIT may be ‘absolute’ or ‘relative’, depending on whether a condition/disease makes the particular use of AIT ‘absolutely’ (for absolute) or ‘potentially’ (for relative) inadvisable.
