Disturbances in the fatty acid oxidation and export in obese people can result in severe complications affecting the normal function of the liver. Lack of timely treatment can result in inflammation of the liver and may lead to hepatic carcinoma. Increased body mass index is a predictor of decompensation of the liver and such patients are also known to possess an increased risk of liver malignancies.
