A landmark step by Surat police: The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Surat has decided that doctors will stay away from work in the city on Monday to protest against an attack by a mob on medical practitioners at Unique Hospital here on October 9. However, doctors will be available to attend to all kinds of emergency cases brought to the hospitals. Unique Hospital was attacked for the second time by a mob in the past few days.
Dr Prashant B Desai in a written statement said the decision was taken after a meeting of members of different faculties on October 10. "The attack on the hospital by a mob of 250 people is a dangerous trend and to show our solidarity with the victim doctors we would be staying away from work," said Dr Brijesh Patel, honorary secretary, IMA, Surat.
